Seasonal Greetings from Ringgold. We have details of our opening times during Christmas and information about our new webinar series for 2014.
Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and colleagues very happy holidays and to say thank you for your support over the last year.
Instead of sending greetings cards this year, we will be making two contributions to charities supporting research in the general area of myeloproliferative disorders; that is MPD Voice in the UK and the MPN Research Foundation in the US.
We very much look forward to working with you in 2014 and wish you continued prosperity for the year ahead. Warmest wishes, from all of us here at Ringgold.
Ringgold Availability over Christmas
Ringgold will be closed during 25-27 December and on 1 January. We will, however, deal with any general or technical enquiries promptly upon our return.
Validate customers will not get a daily report for the week of 23 Dec but the system will still be available as normal. Identify will be updated on 21 December, and then 2 January.
Organizational affiliations are now part of ORCID records
Researchers and contributors may now link education and employment affiliations to their ORCID Records. The affiliated organizations in the ORCID registry will be validated against the Identify Database of institutions provided by Ringgold.
ORCID provides researchers with the ability to obtain a unique ID which distinguishes one researcher from another and allows for accurate attribution of research output. ORCID has been working closely with Ringgold for the institution list used in the ORCID Registry. You can read more on this news story at the ORCID blog.
New Year’s Resolution: Improve the Health of Your Data
Are you moving in new strategic directions in 2014? Looking to grow your business? Understand trends in your customer base, or just service your customers more effectively? All of these goals can be supported by clean, healthy data – your most valuable asset.
Join us in January & February for a series of webinars to help you assess the health of your data, to introduce industry identifiers, and learn how standards-based data can help you achieve your goals. We’ll also review the array of Ringgold services as they apply to both strategic and tactical issues facing the scholarly publications community. Whether you are new to Ringgold or looking to better leverage the services you already have, these webinars are for you. Together, let’s work on making your customer and publication data healthier in 2014.
The basic schedule is as follows:

Identify Types Project & ISNI update
The Types Project, to reclassify and add supplemental data to the Identify Database, continues to make progress. We are currently working on records in the academic sector, focusing first on regions relevant to the majority of our clients: US, UK, Canada, and Europe. In the New Year we will send out samples which will provide clients with examples of the new data structure in the context of our data feed, schema, and in your audit files. Ringgold clients can also look forward to additional announcements with updated released schedules.
In addition to the Types Project progress mentioned above, the database continues to receive regular updates. Some corporate hierarchies we recently updated that may be of interest:
– ID 289110 Apollo Global Management LLC and ID 5942 McGraw-Hill Companies Inc, updated after Apollo’s acquisition of the McGraw-Hill Education business (ID 192699).
– ID 1013 Abbott Laboratories, to incorporate the Solvay Pharmaceutical businesses and the company’s new development into Divisions.
We continue to work with ISNI on the matching of our data to the ISNI database and are working with them to resolve all issues with the process. As soon as we have more news on the availability of ISNI numbers we will release a special announcement.
CDO Update
We are constantly updating existing data in the Consortium Directory Online but if there is a record you wish to use which requires immediate updating, or if you have any general suggestions for improvements to CDO, please feel free to contact us.
