Palgrave Macmillan to launch e-book platform

mail article to a friend
Developed in association with Palgrave Macmillan's sister company, Nature Publishing (NPG), Palgrave Connect will offer libraries a flexible approach to building an e-book collection in the humanities, business and social sciences. Over 4000 e-books will be available in collections organised by year of publication and by discipline. 2009 collections will be updated quarterly with newly published titles. Both 2009 and backlist collections are available to purchase on a one-time fee perpetual access basis.

Palgrave Connect is powered by nature.com. Librarians will be able to control their institution's subscriptions to journal and e-book products from Palgrave Macmillan and Nature Publishing via one administration system and with a single point of contact for customer service. The platform incorporates NPG's full range of library services, including institutional usage reports and promotional tools. MARC records will be available for all collections. Hosting both e-books and journals on the same platform is a step towards offering integrated collections of content in the future.

Palgrave Macmillan will offer exclusive previews of Palgrave Connect at Online Information 2008. Librarians seeking a trial or more information should contact onlinesales@palgrave.com.

Comment

"Access to books online is rapidly becoming as important for academics and professionals as traditional print models - in some cases even more important, since e-books bring powerful benefits such as searchability, remote access and multiple concurrency," said Alison Jones, Director of Digital Development, Palgrave Macmillan. "Palgrave Connect brings together our rich backlist in each subject area together with new titles publishing around the same time as the print version, to offer libraries an exceptional range and quality of research in digital format."
