Oliver Pesch
Oliver Pesch has been elected chair of the board of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) for the 2008-2009 term, effective from 1 July 2008. As chief strategist for EBSCO Information Services, Pesch helps guide the direction of the Company's e-resource access and management products and services initiatives. Pesch also serves on the executive committee for Project COUNTER and is a frequent speaker and author on industry topics such as usage statistics, OpenURL and e-resource management.
Gwenda Thomas and Raymond Berard
At the May 2008 OCLC Members Council two new delegates were appointed for the OCLC Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Gwenda Thomas, Director of Library Services at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, was elected to a 3-year term. Gwenda has held senior management positions in FOTIM (a higher education and library consortium), in the national library association LIASA and in the Department of Library Services at the University of South Africa. Also elected for the same period was Raymond Bérard, Director of ABES, the Bibliographic Agency for Higher Education in France.
Sarah Durrant
Sarah Durrant will take up the position of Secretary General of the Association of Subscription Agents and Intermediaries with effect from 1 July 2008. Sarah is known in the publishing industry for her consultancy work and also from her previous career with INASP, negotiating with publishers for access to online scholarly information on behalf of some of the world's poorest countries. Previously Sarah was Sales Manager at Ingenta and also worked in e-journals development and marketing for John Wiley & Sons and Academic Press. She will continue to run her consultancy - Red Sage Consulting - working from her office in Suffolk.
John Tuck
On 1 August, John Tuck, currently Head of British Collections at the British Library, will take up the post of Director of Library Services at Royal Holloway.
Michael Phillippe
Michael Phillippe has joined the Scientific business of Thomson Reuters Director of Sales, reporting directly to Keith Collier, Vice President and General Manager, ScholarOne. In his new position, he will be responsible for managing relationships with customers currently using Manuscript Central and for new business. Michael's career includes more than 30 years of experience in the chemical industry, publishing and consumer products marketing. Before joining Thomson Reuters, he was director of customer relations at Aries Systems.
Ted Fons
Ted Fons is joining the OCLC management team as Director, OCLC WorldCat Global Metadata Network. From 14 July he will take primary responsibility for and direct the performance of WorldCat global metadata management. Ted was most recently Director of Customer Services at Innovative Interfaces. He has been involved in the development and implementation of a variety of standards and continues to work on the Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative (SUSHI) and the ONIX for Serials/JWP Steering Committee.
